This is an extraordinarily informative and comprehensive book. I learned a lot from it. It is not for the casual reader, however. The pictures are great, but the text is best described as "academic turgid." Academic references are plentiful (which is good), but they appear in the middle of paragraphs instead of in footnotes (which is bad). It makes for pretty heavy reading unless you are a professional biologist or geologist. I got the Kindle version, which is fine on a 24 inch monitor. The pictures are too small for a normal Kindle.
Large, beautifully colored photographs. The book starts off stating, "The deep oceans and global seafloor are truly Earth's last frontier. They remain largely unexplored, yet are critical to our survival on this planet." Published in 2015, this is one of the most up to date compilations of information on the subject available. The book is pricey, but if you want to learn more about the deep ocean this is the place to start.
Fascinating book. I can open it anywhere and find something interesting. Love to just sit with it and browse.
From the perspective of an avid scuba diver, this is all about what you wish you could see if you could get close enough.This is a book for all ages.
This book is a compelling journey with today's scientists into the secrets of the deep with stunning photos.
Both full of pictures for the uninitiated like me, but also with enough description to understand the biologic and geologic processes behind the fascinating pictures.
So excited to receive this book as a birthday present!
