The New York City Noon Prayer Meeting by Talbot W. Chambers was an outstanding work of 'how to do it' when it comes to revival. No tricks, no formulas. Just ONE Christian who decided to humble himself and seek to pray...and a whole nation was brought into the 'operating room' of God. I find it particularly interesting that this awakening gets such 'short shrift' in church historic circles as many seem to focus on the Azuza Street experience (which wasn't a true revival) which took place in the early 1900s. The location of the prayer meeting, the history behind it AND the fact that the church didn't 'originate' it but was the conduit of God's awesome power is included in this work. Further, it shows what laymen and women can do in God's church...and when the people in the congregation KNOW their spiritual gifts and the clergy merely train them, pray for them, and get out of their way, how AWESOME God is when He blesses their efforts. A great primer for pastors who are taking churches in this modern day.
