I thought that this was a very good story and it may be a fitting end it to this series. But I would like to read another one till see how these changes they tried to make play out. One major disappointment was I did not like the death of the character Darcy. I did not think that was necessary to kill of such a likable character. There’s one thing I would change it would be that. Maybe have Darcy injured like Max but not killed.
At the end of the last book, 'Ensnared: The Omega and the Protector' was a trip for the three brothers to return to their birth pack and find some answers. Drew was so upset by what they found, he took off. I was under the impression he had a fated mate in that birth pack and ran off to go find him. But oh was I wrong. . .Andrew 'Drew' is an alpha leopard shifter, trained to fight from an early age and always wins. He's Griffin's 'Finn's' brother and member of the Briar Wood Pack. He proves himself again and again then is spotted by the wrong people, targeted by an omega, a drunken one night stand that results in all sorts of consequences. So while he's getting his life figured out, laws are slowly changing to make life better for all shifters. It's a beginning but a lot of work is still needed. As for niggles nothing was said about Max fully recovering. Being up and around doesn't mean he's fully functioning. I was also hoping for more pack to pack interaction with Cal's grandfather Edward. He's bending over backwards to make restitution. I wanted to see at least one scene where he's interacting with Darcy, I expected it during her first shift. This reads like a concluding book. I hope that's not the case, this series is too good to drop it too soon. Read on Kindle Unlimited. - Dan's Wife
Out of all the books in this series, including Finn's story, Briar Wood hit me the hardest emotionally, the story delves into emotional and mental abuse that many are unaware of unless they are familiar with certain traits. I wanted, no I needed to be angry with Cal but once his history was revealed I felt nothing but sympathy for him. Every day I hear horror stories similar to his circumstances and how easily one can and have fell into the same trap. To see it spun in a setting such as this was a reality check and a reminder that everything isn't what it seems. As crazy as that may be. In this story you get to see the beginning and middle of a slow-burning act of brutality, the only difference is you get a HEA that was worth fighting for. Cal is my HERO. The only disappointment I felt was the destruction of the "bad guys" they met their fate quicker than they deserved. Well Done Claire!An ARC Copy given for an honest review.
ARC provided by author and I thank her!The blurb is accurate but this book, more than any other by the author, features definitely flawed characters and tugs at heartstrings almost every step of the way. A favorite side character is killed and the entire family is almost destroyed. There's a happy ending but the MCs go through a lot of torment to get there. Loved this!
Even though I felt sure the story would end well, it was suspenseful and I was definitely worried several times in the book. Drew's situation felt horrible but Cal's situation felt worse. It's good to see what felt like a conclusion to the series and how things all come together. A wonderful built up to a satisfying conclusion! All of the Briar wood pack books are really good and this one was the same! Definitely recommended.
Wow, what a great book. The author picked the perfect mate for Drew, and wove together a compelling and touching story that seemed to tie up all of the storylines that have run through the series. While I will be sad if this is the end, I can imagine what’s next in the lives of these characters—as if they were real people!—and it makes me smile. Long live Briar Wood!
Oh, I really loved Drew. He’s solid and dependable, and his faith in Cal just didn’t waiver. Considering he was a fighter he should have had a horrible temper, yet he was kind and compassionate. I liked the plot, it kept me engaged and I finished it all in one go. I did have a cry at one point, so here’s your tissue warning. This book is a definite must read.
This was another great addition to the Briar Wood Pack series. These characters were damaged, flawed, complex, and so very engaging. The author really put them through the wringer, they had to work hard for their happy ending.
