The quality of the content varies. Some chapters, like "The Confrontation Principle" with its six-step "road map for healthy confrontation," are concise, thoughtful and original. Others (particularly in the later sections, where the book starts to run out of steam), such as "The Partnership Principle," are more like motivational talks and offer few practical takeaways. Each principle is introduced with two to three pages featuring a familiar figure—Abraham Lincoln, Barbara Walters, Ben Franklin, Angelina Jolie, etc.—or a personal story from the author's life. When you are struggling to get along with people, look at yourself first. Find out what is that part of yourself that is blocking the intimacy in your life. "Who we are determines how we see others." "The entire population of the world - with one minor exception - is composed of others." "Every person we meet has the potential to teach us something." Some incredible quotes in this book that are worth putting into practice in our lives if we want to be successful with others.If you are struggling to succeed or progress in life, this book teaches some necessary basic and universal principles that you need in your life.
I enjoy Maxwell's work because it addresses the basics of human behavior. Some may see this as an oversimplification of a very complex thing (human behavior), but I've had the opportunity to incorporate much of the author's work into my management style, and have seen positive results. At the very least, it's an inexpensive tome, and certainly, employing some or all of the principles within will do no harm to you or your team.
This book helps us to see others as Jesus does. We all run short of patience, but with ourselves. May we show patience with others and learn to build, not tear down. This is the main message I received from this book.
Now comes the difficult part of living these principles. I would do well to read a summary each week. I love the stories he shared, and believe these principles are true.
I read this book years ago at the recommendation from someone with Primerica Financial Services (PFS). Say what you will about PFS the book recommendation was well worth the read. When I did it the first time I changed my life. However, I didn't keep with it and eventually I lost ground that I had gained as a result of reading this book. Now I'm going through it again and I've put it on my calendar to review each year to keep moving myself forward. John C. Maxwell is a great leader and speaker. I've learned many things from him and like Brain Tracy says, 'Learn it once and keep applying it.'
Excellent! In reading this I had the opportunity to self reflect on several of my existing relationships. I saw areas of myself that I wasn't happy with but found tools to help me improve my approach to some of those relationships. My favorites principles in the book was the Number 10 and the Big Picture. Both gave a different perspective when I consider the success of others and my own success. Have this book in my arsenal as I prepare for increased responsibilities in my role at work.
This is the most profound book on successful people principles I have ever read! Right off the bat, John Maxwell, the world's foremost authority on leadership, explains that people skills are the most important skills we can ever learn in life! Then he gets in deeper with the principles he's learned over a number of decades on how to relate victoriously with people!
This book is wonderful! It will help you see the principles in relationships and how to build them. Life is about people and the ebbs and flows of life can make it seem otherwise. In order to win in life you must be able to win with people.
